I often see the similarities between classical/orchestral music to rock/metal/progressive (rock|metal) and usually like such music that has similar rises and releases of energy/"tension".
It's strange, I like some music from the Harry Potter soundtrack[s], the above 1812 Overture, the Sorcerer's Apprentice and Ride of the Valkyries and as much as I like various songs from Tool, Megadeath, Queensryche and Metallica's S&M album.
This is the same energetic feel that I hear and get from listening to the music behind the Nickelodeon cartoon,
Avatar: The Last Airbender. Best cartoon ever on so many levels.

Megadeath is the least energetic of the songs, I find the second Ecstasy of Gold video to be simply awesome.
