Re: Animal Rights...
For me they are unimportant in the worldly perspective, yes there is a lot of stuff that happens to animals all over the world which is wrong, but I think we need to get Human Rights sorted and Human Rights should be our number one priority.

I agree that human rights are a higher priority than animal rights, but I don't think this means no effort or resources should be spent on animal rights until human rights are sorted, since it isn't a simple matter of the effort or resources being able to be diverted to help humans, and also because there is a connection between the two (children who torture animals often grow to commit extreme crimes against people).
I think there will always be human rights issues, but that doesn't mean we can't try to address animal rights as well. If you gave me the choice of 'save the random puppy or save the random person', I'd save the person (the use of 'random' is not intended to imply that I'd save a puppy over some particular people.)

Animals have the right to be tasty.
Humans have the right to eat animals.

Okay, substitute 'welfare' into my post in the place of 'rights' after the words 'animal'.
I think their lives do have SOME value, so we should kill as few as possible for our needs, and do it humanely. No point eating meat three times a day, or harvesting a small part of a carcass and throwing the rest away. Leather shoes wear well, but no point buying 30 pairs of leather shoes so you have one for each day of the month, or wallpapering your walls with leather coz you like the look.
