Why Wai Loves Muay Thai

Not Dane, but the knock outs and the kicks to the face, elbows to the head, take downs, ~sigh~.

I dislike MMA, something about guys rolling around on the ground together is a bit... gay?

It's all the same to me...



My cousin is a K1 Fighter. He spends alot of time in Thailand training. He's the current light heavyweight British Champ.

Wicked, looks like a good guy too, glad to see his preferences for styles has improved, I find stand up more entertaining.

The UK has some awesome fighters, I generally don't like watching girls fight, but they have Julie Kitchen (inb4 that's where she should be).



She kicked Jims old trainers wifes ass in Jamaica a while back and I now think I am in love.

Stole our sons name from this guy.

Should have called him Monkongtong.

It's a bit of wanky sport in my opinion. It's a weird little subculture where everyone gets super involved and everything becomes about the fighting.

I agree, it's these guys life. Jims job revolves around training, not the other way around. He spends 4 hours there a day training, all his friends are from 'the scene'. I've found Rowing is the same. I don't think my brother has anyone other than me on his facebook who doesn't row.

Swimmers, cyclist and others don't become as involved.

Excuse the ignorance but what is the difference between kickboxing and Muay Thai other than the read arm bands?
Is it that in Muay Thai they can grapple a lot more? Making it more like UFC?

Unlike MMA (ufc) Muay Thai and Kickboxing are only stand up, once you're opponents on the floor you can't touch him.

Kickboxing is like a watered down westernised version of Muay Thai.

Muay Thai you can use your knees, elbows and grapple upright.

There are a range of different 'fight rules', A1, K1, Full-Thai-Rules, Modified-Thai-Rules. These all include or exclude things like elbows, knees, grappling times etc...

Muay Thai is how they fight in Thailand, usually a Muay Thai fight is fought to Thai fight music and has traditional Thai details about the pre-fight.
