    Conspiracies Empty Conspiracies

Psalter wrote:Those that deny AGW, those that believe aspartame gives you wart cancer, those that think vaccination is going to kill you or make you weaker.

Basically, those people that laugh in the face of evidence and cling to fallacy and superstition.

    What is wrong with them?

The thing that keeps conspiracies in a healthy abundance is that just some of them have an incy bit of truth in them - just enough to reward some into continuing belief.

Those that Psalter considers intellectually superior (and he himself Razz ) may find one day that not every one of their beliefs was based on good science. Remember, there is not so much money available these days for pure research for the sake of knowledge, and much funding comes from sources with vested interests. Also, even with good data, there are many ways to present it, not all of them equally honest, and even the peer-review process is not always perfect at detecting poor use of statistics.

    There!

If you dont believe that, you may as well join the Flat Earth Society!

Scientific funding and peer reviews are always tainted by vested interest these days. Look at the con jobs of the last few years... sars, various animal flus, Y2K, global warming, Rogernomics... had impartial funders and impartial peers done the hard yards, these ideas would have never had a chance!

Sars killed what, 7-800 people and had a 9.6% fatality rate but thanks to the world of the appropriate agencies, it's spread was halted relatively quickly.

Various animal flues? Bird flu kills something like 70% of the people it infects, swine flu killed nearly 15,000 people, Y2K was never a problem because it was solved in time, climate change is real, and rogernomics is economics, which isn't a hard science anyway.

So, what on earth is your point?

Swine flu killed 17,700 out of 6 billion. Bird flu killed 200 out of 6 billion, and equine flu was, as a population control, a total stuff-up!
Y2K was a con-job that was meant to affect computers worldwide. Many non-compliant computers kept working because there was no actual problem. Climate change is a con. The seas wont rise much because there is already a 75% coverage of the planet by seas and not enough rain or ice to increase its height to any real degree (the arctic ice is already 7/8ths under water and has a high percentage of air, thus allowing the top bit to float! The only real climate change that can be detected scientifically is the variation between summer and winter!
If Rogernomics was any good, why did so many profitable assets get sold? Why not sell the duds at a fire sale price and live off the profits? Makes economic sense. Unlike Rogernoimics.
