Poor poor man, he's\been paid a pittance for the enormous amount of work and responsibility he carries, do you think he should be paid accordingly? Like, at least 10 mil?

Re: Mr Paul Reynolds
they dont know what small piece of a system is failing? doesnt sound that unusual to me.
less than 3% of their customers were affected for more than 1 day. and they replaced all customers who could get into a store with a CDMA phone (ie transferred them back to old plan). i think it's juyst another excuse to telecom bash

Re: Mr Paul Reynolds
Sometimes technical difficulties are unavoidable due to human error or the elements. Do you think that the council (or whoever manages power lines) gets in trouble whenever a tree cuts off power to a street? No, they only get in trouble if they don't see to it as quickly as possible. The same is true of this, things going wrong are part of life, but if they just sat around and didn't do their best to try rectify the situation then they should be held accountable. I don't know if they have done enough or not, but the fact that the problem is there should not be the reason for criticism, but rather whether or not they have done their best to mitigate the effects.

Re: Mr Paul Reynolds
I guess it is one of the issues that we have living in a country with a small population spread over a large area in the middle of the world's largest ocean, telcos don't have the customer numbers to provide the level of service that a first world country should have.
I personally haven't had too much of an issue with XT, I changed to XT last year because neither of the Vodafone networks has any coverage to speak of here at the arse end of nowhere (Taranaki). So despite having been a vodafone customer for about a decade, I had no choice but to switch.

I disagree. I never had a non-pricing related issue.
Sloppy old telecom, so out of touch with their customers because for so long they have held a monopoly.

Re: Mr Paul Reynolds
Yes, coverage and outages are seperate issues. I guess where I am heading with this is that perhaps Telecom have spread their resources further to give greater coverage at the expense of having fool proof back-up in urban areas (of course investing enough to have both would be nice). Yes, they have cut corners, but perhaps there is some method in their madness.
I have pretty much disliked the way that Telecom have operated for as long as I can remember, but I work on the road a lot, so I need coverage. If Vodafone can't give me coverage where I live, where I work or anywhere in between (which they don't) then to me they are on the whole providing an inferior service to telecom, despite the outages, in Taranaki. It's more a case of the lesser of two evils than actually being happy with Telecom.
I'd still say it's justifiable to expect a reasonably reliable service, outside of where coverage issues apply, no matter where you are in the world. It's part of the contract you've made with the company, they say they'll give you the ability to make calls where ever you are and you pay them for the phone and rental/calls.
True.
