What do you think about people making profiles for recently deceased people. Is it a modern way to memorialise or in really bad taste?

Prompted to ask after I saw one the other day for a young guy started by his half brothers half sister. His full sister also had made a profile for him. Just seems a bit odd, too public and maybe even attention seeking.

I guess that's kind of nice, in a morbid kind of way.
Friends and family overseas could use it as a substitute for visiting a grave.

Yes, that's a pretty good reason for setting something like that. Why judge someone who sets it up as an attention seeker? We're living in a technological age and I guess it's just a way to share the grieving process. Each to their own.

    Too true.

Why are any of us on the internet today then? We're all seeking attention for one reason or another. We wouldn't be doing it otherwise.

Each to their own is fine.

If it was done well (subjective I suppose). Nice pictures of the deceased, friends or family sharing memories maybe.

Most of these pages are nothing like that.

I have issues too about keeping the grief alive. Hard to explain. People just seem to make it more than it should be and people only remotely connected to the dead person seem be in equal standing to family and close friends.

Answer to 83....I might be here for attention but I'm not riding on the back of a dead guy to do it Surprised

I think it's tacky but if people wanna do it then whatever.

I should also add that I'm on the internet information seeking, not attention seeking.

I find it tacky also. There are memorial websites where you can mourn/glorify or whatever someones death. My daughter lost 4 friends 2 years ago due to suicide and drink driving, and their tribute pages on Bebo were just pathetic. Even the boys families found them pathetic and degrading and got them removed.

I dunno, each to their own I suppose, yes.
They just seem to scream to be "look at me! I loved xxx better because I started/joined a facebook page dedicated to them"
