Stevo Meier is a fucken nutjob, and the Federated Farmers are greedy bastards.
Those people bought their farms cheaper because there were pylons on it already.
If they didn't have pylons there, before they were to buy the land, they should have studied their local district development plan to see if in the future, new pylons may be erected there.
A bit like buying a house by the airport or a train stationa and then complaining about the noise and asking the concil to shut the facilities down.
I have absolutely no sympathy for any of them and I'm sick of this country being held to ransom by greedy farmers, especially a nutter like Stevo who, by the way, had 11 firearms confiscated from his farm and who, no mater what his dispute with Transpower was, had absolutely no right to deny firefighters' access to their pylons when thousands of homes and businesses were having a power blackout. I won't be going into the naivety (or laziness) of Transpower's management who relies on the benevolence of private landowners to assure access to the land when needed, but one crazy person should not be able to hold the country to ransom because they have a grudge against a big corporation. He should be charged and locked up like any other terrorist.
