Apparently there are 126 MPs in our Parliament. I read somewhere that on the same population to MP ratio as the UK only 45 are needed to do the same job - so why don't we all do something to get rid of the bloodsucking leeches?! I think this is an outrage and a huge con to our nation. Want a meaner, leaner Parliament? Start some action! Twisted Evil

All you need to do is vote for changing MMP at the next election as John Keys is saying he will have a public referendum

What's that? You want less representation and more voted dictatorship? Interesting.

Also, if you can't get your head around MMP then you're a fuckwit.

    There are currently 122 MPs.

Even as Labour Supporter, who initially opposed MMP, I can see that MMP is inherently a fairer system than FPP. It needs to be remembered, that the Royal Commission Inquiry into the Electoral System prior to the first Referendum, recommended 120 MPs under both FFP or whichever Proportional System replaced it.

It also said the cut-off to achieve representation should be 4%. Had this been the case, NZ First would still be in Parliament. I'm not convinced having 3 ACT MPs there with less than 2% and no NZ First, who got over 4% is fair. Or reasonable.

The number of MPs is a red-herring raised by the stupid. How can having a lesser number make our Democracy stronger?

The Sutcliffes, (sp), of this World only real beef with MMP is that it has effectively made Labour-led Governments the norm. And regardless of whether National loses at the next election, or the one after it, this will continue.

There is only one Political Party to gain from any change to the status quo. National. And they know it.

So if you support any other Party, you must vote for no change.

IMO, the leader of each party should be given the number of party votes that they are entitled to. To have some dipshit on the list elected, who then votes based on their own morals is ridiculous. They were not voted for their morals - they hold that seat because people liked the party's views in general. And those views are, in general, the views of the party leader

So, if each leader was given extra votes, we wouldn't need all those extra MP's - they are only there to add voting rights to the party anyway

waste of dosh I reckon - better off growing weed for us all so we can do our best to forget the overall quality of politicians in general

and most of them are ugly!!
